As with just about any application request for SharePoint, I think they short answer is 'yes', however, the question would be whether or not it would be an ideal solution. You might be able to get it to work, but how well is a question.

As far as the approvals, activations, expirations, checkout - stuff like that - I'd say SharePoint is pretty good at all of that stuff out of the box.

If you were to do it, the first thing I think of is the new integrations with SharePoint 2007 + Word 2007, as far as the document information panels and mapping this data to SharePoint lists. That would be useful for inputting client information (like I suppose the mail-merge type stuff - name, address, etc).

With Word's new ability to create a PDF from a doc, that might be a solution for rendering online. There may be a way to programmatically tap into that feature with some kind workflow activity and build it in with designer.

Anyway, those are just a few thoughts based on your requirements. I suspect it wouldn't hurt to go through a more thorough investigation into SharePoint's features

I am new to MOSS and I am evaluating if we could use MOSS to develop a letter writing product for our clients. I looking for a product that allows me to create and manage a letter template online and then merge with a data file to produce mass mail letters to be mailed out to our clients.

I would like to know if I could achive my objective using MOSS.
