With sharepoint Permission, users can set item or column permission easily. Its main function lies in:

Assign permissions to all items separated from list permission settings. There are times when you need to control permissions to all items but not want to inherit permissions from parent list permission settings. SharePoint Permission Boost Workflow can solve this problem instead of manually setting permissions to each item. With it, permission settings will be automatically applied to each item when this item is created or modified;
Assign ITEM-RELATED users or groups permissions to each item. For instance, in a task list, you want the assignee of one task, but not some specified users or groups, to have read permission to this task. Since each task item has its own assignee, it will be difficult if you set read permission to each item when assignee is appointed or changed. SharePoint Permission Boost Workflow brings in a concept named “ITEM-RELATED users or groups”, which actually means user or group columns in a list, to solve this problem. Configured in the workflow association page, user or group columns, which represent “ITEM-RELATED users or groups”, are assigned permissions to all items. The workflow is running in background; when item is created or modified, the “ITEM-RELATED” users or groups will be assigned permissions to the item.
Assign users or groups read/edit permissions to list columns. SharePoint does not define column permissions by default, but SharePoint Permission Boost controls column permissions by overwriting some control templates.

Find further information on

http://www.sharepointboost.com/permissionboost.html

And feel free to contact: services@sharepointboost.com

sharepoint permission, permission, sharepoint webpart, sharepoint service, sharepoint item, item, column, sharepoint 2007

Sharepoint Alert Reminder

Sharepoint Alert Reminder Boost is our another product. We chose Nintex.

This is not a technical review, to give you some perspective of where I am coming from, I am basically a Systems/Business Analyst with split personnality that likes to do IT Project Management too....(They made me an IT Manager...dummies...)

For us it was a good fit. While certainly not as feature rich or flexible as many out there, it was a good fit for our smallish-medium sized company.

Basically what it does, is provide a rich web-based UI over the top of the workflow engine that my super-users can use to do some very creative stuff. Really useful for temporary processes, or things we simply do not have the resource to program in our mainline systems. We are also using it as a modeling tool in that we can lay in a process, use it in a Production like capacity for a period of time, and if it bears out to be solid, throw it over the fence to the C# guys to code it up for real.

Strengths:

1) Easy for the Business at large to understand. Can't say how many times I have ran into roadblocks with respect to abstract concepts around SharePoint. Nintex has provided me one area in a very complex product that I don't have to spend a lot of time explaining.

2) Easy install. 15 minutes, we were up on the dev server, haven't tried to put it on the cluster yet. I don't expect it to be too bad yet.

3) Support is good so far. I've only made one request, and it really didn't have anything to do with their software (my IE install is jacked up). They are in Australia, so the timezone thing is an issue, but I'm pretty self-sufficient, I can wait a day. You can tell that when they get the email...They pay attention. It was clear the service desk rep knew what he was talking about. (can't always assume this will be the case)

4) Price-Point. For those of you without oddles of money to spend on this stuff, these guys are the ones. Lots of bang for the buck. Again, you get what you pay for and I wouldn't put them up against K2, but I think they are better than Coras for my purposes, and they come in A LOT cheaper.

Con's:

1) As with anything that is user friendly, flexibility is impared. As we all know, Fisher-Price something up and it's real good at what it does and that's about it.

2) Licensing is at the web-app level, for those bargain hunters out there, or folks that have a bunch of web apps out there (I Don't... I'm sure there is a good reason to want to do that, just don't know what it is) it can get expensive. To license my cluster, I've basically had to buy two licenses for what is essentially the same site.

Anyways, thats all I can think of for now, I hope this might be helpful for someone.

If want to ask questions related to my experience with it, feel free to email pulliam.brian@gmail.com,

Brian

Rate the third party products you have used

The guest presenter for the 2nd anniversary meeting last night was Andrew Connell, who demo'd a number of cool developer tools. At the following breakout session, members of the administrators/advanced users group wanted to solicit reviews of third party products which people are using now with their SharePoint implementations. Many members of the group are using some of the free products available at the www.codeplex.com site and gave very positive reviews.

If you have added a third party product, free or purchase, take a few minutes and log your comments about it. We'll create a mini-reference library here!

Thanks!

Deborah Leveranz

Reporting Tools

Has anyone else found a need for a 3rd party solution for reporting tools of sharepoint07 stats?

Julie Torres

julie.torres@mkcorp.com

Migration tools for SP2003 to SP2007

James Scott asked at the meeting last night:

Does anyone have any experience with migration tools from SP 2003 to SP 2007, either individual sites and/or lists?

You may contact him directly at james.scott@mkcorp.com

LiveLink for Sharepoint 2007

We have implemented SharePoint 2007 and also have a preexisting LiveLink instance and plan on adding the LiveLink hooks to SharePoint for document management and such.. anyone have any experiences?
